Goldsmith's Guidelines

Below you will find all the necessary information to produce your items. As such, any failure to follow these guidelines and procedures will result in reject of creations and possible dismisal.

Skill Requirements:
Writing Jewellery
  • Before an item can be created, a draft of the item must be presented on a blueprint. For this purpose, you will need to know how to write legibly.
  • The skill of writing is currently available up to *** within the catacomb classes of L'ecole and must be at a *** before training for the craft.
  • If you wish to make a piece of jewelry, you will need to know the skill of Jewellery. Your skill level will reflect the final quality of your creation. No items will be created by crafters with less than a *** in this skill.
  • The skill of Jewellery is currently available up to *****. You may train from the Master Goldsmith of by Simon the Silversmith ONLY.

Tools Needed:
Blueprints Wax
  • Blueprints are large sheets of paper upon which designs are originally drafted. You will find them within a stationery shoppe like Calligraphy Supplies..
  • Wax is needed for the finishing of drafted blueprints. You will find some within a stationery shoppe as well.

Jewellery Guidelines, Hints, and Submission Information:
Guidelines
  • The items you create must match your skill level and time specified for creation. Both affect the final quality of an item and also which jeweller(s) will actually sell your creations. The higher the skill and the more time spent, the higher quality the final product will have. Meaning: Don't bother trying to make an expensive item for noble-wear when your skill level is only average.
  • The lower the skill, the less descriptive each item should be, i.e., a level *** jeweller would know enough to create a simple pair of stud earrings whereas a level ***** jeweller should be able to create more elaborate items.
  • Stay within the time and setting of the City. Anything not in keeping with the times and styles will most likely be denied approval and quite possibly your blueprint will end up in the trash tub. If you're not sure on the validity of an article you wish to create, feel free to ask.
Hints
  • Keep in mind that you can only do so much at a time. Common sense tells us that it'd be quite impossible for a jeweller to create 5 lavish necklaces, 3 gemstone rings and 9 hairclips in one month singlehandedly. You will be asked upon preparing your blueprint what percent of your time you wish to spend creating that particular item. The percent you select will determine the quality and price of the item. I suggest you keep a record of each item, the percent used, and what the final cost is in the shops to gauge future designs.
  • Double check. Triple check. Blueprints with errors will NOT be approved. Blueprints ARE NOT cheap. Blueprints ARE correctible before finishing. Always double check your work! Blueprints with any mispellings, extra spaces or bad grammar will end up in the trash tub.
  • Check to make sure the item you wish to create is not already created. Before you bother drafting an item onto a blueprint, be sure that you pay a visit to each of the jewelry shops within Paris.
  • Know your blueprint contents! Descriptions on wrong pages won't be approved. An example of a blueprint can be found here.
Submissions
  • To aviod any of the problems listed above you should email a draft of your blueprint to the Master Goldsmith and wait for approval to continue with your blueprint. Once completed submit the blueprint UNSEALED to the Master Goldsmith for a final revision. This is the best way to ensure that your design will be approved.
  • NOTE: Only 2 submissions will be accepted per season. Due to the massive over load in blueprint designs, Royalty has mandated that each jeweller may submit only 2 designs per SEASON. You may want to keep this in mind when choosing your designs.

Commands Overview:
Command/Purpose
  • PREPARE BLUEPRINT AS <TYPE>
This will prepare your blueprint for drafting your design. It is the first step of the creation process. In this command, the <TYPE> refers to the type of clothing, i.e., PANTALOON, DRESS, SASH, SHIRT, etc.
  • WRITE BLUEPRINT <PAGE>
Blueprints have six pages. Tailors utilize the first FIVE pages of each blueprint they draft. Each page will need to be written seperately. Should you make a mistake, you may redo it by using this command to correct any errors. In this command, the <PAGE> refers to a page number, i.e. 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5.
  • READ BLUEPRINT <PAGE>
Use this command to review your draft for errors. If any error is found or you simply wish to change your draft, refer to the above command and redo a specific page. Blueprints turned in with errors will not be approved and may very well end up in a trash tub.
  • FINISH BLUEPRINT
This will complete your draft. You must have wax in your inventory to seal your blueprint properly. Once your blueprint is finished, you should turn it in to the head of your department for review.
