| Sparring
|
Sparring
is the most important way for an inexperienced fighter to learn
how to use their sword most effectively without actually having
to die from losing a fight. The distinction between a person
who has never sparred and someone who spars regualarly when
a real fight occurs is often obvious. The time you spend in
a sparring chamber can make the difference between dying and
winning. You can find a sparring chamber in each of the regimental
homes found around Paris. It is best to spar with a member of
your own regiment so as you can keep your sword skills and fighting
ability a secret from any of the members of your enemy regiments.
Then they will be unsure of their ability to kill you. After
you have agreed to spar with someone, when you begin sparring
them it will be as though you are fighting for real since you
will lose health points, but unlike a real fight, you will not
lose health points by bleeding. Whoever knocks their opponent
down to 0 health wins the fight; his opponent falls unconcious
but doesn't die. The loser will just regain conciousness after
a few moments. |
| Attacking |
In
order to attack someone, you must first be wielding a weapon.
Most combat utilizes edged weapons such as swords. To use your
sword you type SLASH <PERSON> or LUNGE <PERSON>.
Attacking someone will cause you to lose balance. Every time
you swing your sword, or successfully parry an attack, you will
be unbalanced for a short amount of time. While unbalanced you
will not be able to attack. Do not expect to take your opponent
out in one swing of the sword. Some duels last ages. To attack
using ranged weapons please refer to the ranged
weapons section. |
| Balance |
Every
time you swing your sword, or successfully parry an attack,
you will be unbalanced for a short amount of time. You will
notice a few seconds after you slash or lunge at your opponent
you will see that you "have regained your balance". When you
see this message it means that you are able to attack again.
In addition, when you strike at your opponent he will lose
his balance for a short period of time before he can retaliate
and strike back.The
main thing to remember about regaining your balance is timing;
to know when you're about to regain your balance and may strike
at your opponent again will give you a good advantage over
your opponent. The ability to keep your opponent off balance
is a skill that only the more experienced fighters in paris
have and can only be done with lots of practice in the sparring
room.

Macros |
Players
use macros when fighting to save themselves from the trouble
of typing out the commands to SLASH and LUNGE over and over
during a fight. As for choosing to slash or lunge with your
macro, the choice is up to you. Most people train one higher
than the other at first. You can't slash and lunge at the exact
same time, though you could alternate the two modes of attack.
The macros you use to slash and lunge are: SM # SLASH <PERSON>
or SM # LUNGE <PERSON>. Other macros players need
when fighting are cammands to parry and sidestep. These abilities
are two of the most important defensive swordplay skills. Parrying
defends you from your opponent's slashing strikes while sidestepping
enables you to dodge blows from lunges. The macro used to parry
and sidestep is SM # PARRY::SS. Most people use this
macro before beginning a fight as well as during the battle
the fight, but like your offensive actions, you may only ss::parry
when you have regained your balance. |
| Healing
Potions |
You
can buy healing potions from any of the herb shops found around
Paris. These liquids are essential if you want to have a prayer
at beating your opponent in a fight. There are three different
types that you can buy from a herb shop; dark green, pale green,
and clear potions. Each type has its own price and each one
has its own level of healing ability. Some will increase your
health points in a sip very quickly, while others will increase
those points only slightly. The macro to drink your potion is
SM # DRINK BOTTLE. |
